Captains Club 2009 Magil Estate Penfolds night.
June 19, 2009
Nearly 80 members and guests of the McGuinness McDermott’s Captains Club attended Penfolds’ Magill Estate Restaurant on Wednesday evening to enjoy a fantastic night of food and wine.
In attendance were 5 of the Captains Club Ambassador’s in Mark Bickley, Matthew Primus, Tony McGuinness, Chris McDermott and newly inducted on the evening, Port Adelaide captain Domenic Cassisi.
With a delicious degustation menu, Penfolds supplied tastings of their premium wines to our guests that had been perfectly matched with the food. Head sommelier Remon Van de Kerkhoff spoke about the pairings of food to wines, prepared by himself and executive chef Luke Steplsys.
Chris McDermott interviewed Mark Bickley on his induction into the AFL Hall of Fame, as well as some sticky questions about his assistant coach’s role at the Crows, bringing plenty of laughs. Matthew Primus answered some quick questions on the future of the Port Adelaide Football Club and said they were happy with the position Port was sitting in, however looking for a few more wins.
The Magill Estate wine cellar tour was a big hit with all guests as they had the opportunity to delve into the underbelly of the winery to see the extensive collection of Grange and other blends Penfolds is famous for.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the Grange 2003 tastings, with plenty of appreciative palettes enjoying the drop.
The McGuinness McDermott Foundation wishes to thank the Captains Club members for their participation in the fundraising initiative and we look forward to welcoming you to many more of our events throughout 2009.
