To make a donation to the McGuinness McDermott Foundation, just give Sarah a call on 8161 6025 or email her at sarah@mcfoundation.com.au. All supporters receive our newsletter to keep you up-to-date on current projects and events.

If you have a birthday, anniversary or some other special occasion and would like to ask your guests to make a donation in lieu of presents, we can supply you with sponsorship forms and reply paid envelopes for this purpose. This is a wonderful gesture and we will let you know who made donations in your honour.

The McGuinness McDermott Foundation is very grateful for the continuous support we receive from companies and individuals throughout South Australia.

We also accept donations via Everyday Hero. To see how you can donate, click here.

Look out for our new collection boxes. These boxes are a small and easy way to help make a big difference to the lives of children with cancer and serious illness. The boxes are in all KFC and Hudson’s Coffee stores around Adelaide. We have over 100 collection boxes in various companies all over South Australia, so look out for them to help make a difference. Below is Genna with a donation box at her family's business, Acacia Car Rentals.

A big thank you to Angela and Theo, the owners of Fenix Snack Bar on St. Vincent Street in Port Adelaide, who have had one of our collection boxes in their shop for the past two years and have raised almost $1,000 in that time. Next time you're in the Port Adelaide region, pay them a visit, and help to support those who support us! A big congratulations also goes to everyone at the Hudsons Coffee upstairs in Adelaide Airport. In 2007 Hudsons raised $10,019.22 with this store raising $2,818.45 of this amount.

Another quick and easy way of raising money is to display one of our collection boxes at a function. This is what the Ceda Social Club did at a BBQ they held on Boxing Day and an impressive $236.90 was collected! Give us a call on (08) 8161 6025 if you know of an event you could collect at!

Meet Kayla who has benefited from the gift of a special pair of glasses. Kayla, 10, was diagnosed five years ago with Actue Myeloid Leukaemia. She received an initial two years of chemotherapy and then relapsed.  This meant she would require a bone marrow transplant, plus more chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  The bone marrow transplant for "unrelated donors" cannot be done in Adelaide, thus the whole family relocated to Sydney for over 80 days. Kayla and her family travelled to Sydney, underwent a transplant and thankfully she made it out the other side!

Eventually Kayla returned to school and her mum (Deanna) informed the MMF that for a long time Kayla couldn't understand what the teacher wanted her to do and had great difficulties with her schooling.  It was then realised (thanks to the Ronald McDonald Learning Program) that Kayla couldn't see the white board properly.  Kayla had developed Graft versus host disease (GVHD) as a result of her transplant and this caused severe cataracts which were obstructing her sight.  She underwent several operations to remove these cataracts and also to have her eyelashes lazored off as they continually grow into her eyeballs, also due to GVHD.

Kayla is one of the many children who we here at the McGuinness McDermott Foundation (MMF) support throughout our many projects and we will continue to support with our soon to begin McGuinness McDermott Foundation Survivorship Services.

Specsavers - Deanna from Hollywood Specsavers contacted us at the MMF to express their desire to help out. She indicated to us that the franchise at Salisbury Downs would like to do something to support the MMF children.  She has asked that we find a child who would benefit from receiving a new pair of glasses as an early Christmas present.

She would also like to give some sunglasses to other children currently on treatment.  This could be beneficial as children on current chemotherapy have tremendous light sensitivity due to the effects of chemotherapy.

In 2008, Craig Calliess decided to do something special for MMF by involving his business in a Corporate Challenge called Bikes for Tikes.
This involved corporate teams being given a bike that needed to be assembled. When they completed the challenge, the bikes were then donated to children of the McGuinness McDermott Foundation. The first of these donations was made at Sferas at Modbury on the 4th of December where three of our children received a beautiful brand new mountain bike as an early Xmas present.

The MMF, RDNS, Visy, Inkjet and Laser have joined forces to recycle printer cartridges for charity. If you throw away your cartridges into Landfill please consider the environmental benefits and giving your cartridge to charities for recycling. Why recycle? One reason is because up to 3 litres of oil is needed to make one new toner. Furthermore, more than 11 million ink, and 3 million toner cartridges, are imported every year into Australia. Every imported cartridge causes economic and environmental damage. It takes 20 times more energy to make a new cartridge than reuse one. Take the step to recycle for charity. In just 12 months, cartridge recycling could save 4.3 million litres of oil in a country of Australia's size.
