The McGuinness McDermott Foundation (MMF) was launched on 30th May 1996 by former Adelaide Football Club (Crows) captains Tony McGuinness and Chris McDermott in memory of Nathan Maclean and Nicholas Berry, with the aim to improve areas of Oncology treatment and facilities for children and their families in South Australia.
In the 12 years the MMF has been in existence, more than $10 million has been raised for various projects. Fundraising efforts have been focused primarily on the area of Oncology at the Women's & Children's Hospital (WCH), but from time to time, depending on the Hospital's needs, projects undertaken have broadened from cancer to incorporate other areas of serious illness.
The next project will be to establish the MMF Survivorship Services for children and young adults. The goal of this is to decrease the impact of the treatment related effects experienced by survivors and their families/carers, improving quality of life and ensuring their journey can be navigated more easily than the currently fragmented system.
